Oscar winner takes on role of legendary tennis champion

In, 1973 the electrifying tennis match between World #1 Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) and ex-champ and serial hustler Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell) was billed as “The Battle of the Sexes” and became one of the most watched televised sports events of all time. Stone takes on role of Billie Jean King, a former tennis champion, who helped break down barriers for women all over the world as one of the first openly gay athletes.

Directed by Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton, Battle of the Sexes hits theatres September 22.

I’m all for anything starring Emma Stone and I really think some of Steve Carell’s best work comes when he’s playing a jack ass. This is an important story and I’m interested to see how this plays out on the big screen.
